Symbols, logic, semiotics – the meaning inherent in the imagery of life is often a contested space. A separation between meanings, between understandings can occur between cultures, professions, individuals even. The material of Barrier Mesh separates zones of safe public spaces, or construction spaces. The symbology of separation is inherent in the material. In this show wellington artists Aaron Frater takes this material and changes, cuts, forms, and manipulates it into iconic symbols of direction, expansion, connection, stopping , and going, both showing and questioning the way we may respond to the material in the objects.
