IF FOOD WASTE WAS A COUNTRY

Did you know that if food waste was a country, it would be the 3rd highest polluter in the world, following the US and China? 🤯

The climate crisis is worsening, and food waste is a driving force responsible for up to 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions. The average person throws out about 163 lbs of food every year, or 8 meals per week! Compostable items like fruits and veggies get tossed out the most, with resource-intensive and generally non-compostable meat and dairy products getting trashed at about half the rate.

Making simple lifestyle changes such as measuring portions, eating leftovers, checking the fridge before shopping, using every part of our food items, not throwing out food that's a bit wilted or bruised, composting what we can't eat, and practicing plant-based cooking skills go a long way. Check out these creative techniques by @reducewastenow that could help reduce global food waste and let our planet breathe a little easier 💚
